English
At the Riverside Federation we provide an English curriculum that is ambitious and designed to help all learners to develop the skills and knowledge that they need to communicate effectively, to become lifelong learners and to succeed in life.
We are a ‘reading school' as we recognise that reading is a key life skill and a curriculum enabler. We focus on promoting a love of language and reading and ensuring that our children read as often and as widely as possible in order to improve their fluency and understanding.
Each class use high quality rich, class texts, which are linked to their Learning Journey, to teach and inspire a range of reading and independent writing. Lessons sequences themselves build progressively towards an extended piece of writing.
We teach the National Curriculum and each year group bases its planning on a skills progression document which shows the clear progression of skills through each year group.
