School Meals

School meals are provided in our School Kitchen under a contract with Chartwells Catering. The Menu is revised termly (see link at the bottom of this page) and there are vegetarian / jacket potato options available every day. Freshly baked baguettes are also available to order on a daily basis with a variety of fillings (Ham / Cheese / Tuna).
The cost is £2.15 per meal and payment can be made online via ParentPay.   Please ask at the School Office for details.

East Sussex County Council school meal policy

We aim to:

  • provide a hot two-course meal to all pupils
  • cater for vegetarian and special diets dictated by ethnic, cultural and religious beliefs
  • if practical, tailor menus for pupils with medically prescribed diets
  • serve quality ingredients with excellent presentation
  • meet Government nutritional standards
  • make meal times enjoyable, comfortable and social
  • treat our pupil customers with respect.

Nut allergies

We don’t knowingly use any products that contain nuts or nut by-products in our primary school menus. But regulations mean we can’t declare nut free status. Contact us for further information.

Special Diets

Special diets shouldn’t stop children enjoying nutritious and tasty school lunches with their friends. We cater for many special dietary needs:

  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Milk-free for lactose intolerance
  • Gluten-free for coeliac disease
  • Carbohydrate counts for diabetics

We can cater for pupils with one or more allergies or intolerances to the 14 EU allergens:

– Gluten – Crustaceans – Eggs – Fish – Peanuts – Soybeans – Milk – Nuts – Celery – Mustard – Sesame – Sulphur dioxide/sulphites – Lupin – Molluscs

If your child needs a special menu for medical reasons, complete a Special Diet Request form. You can also get one from your child’s school office. A GP or Dietitian’s letter must support medical requests.

A nutritionist will assess your request. They’ll send a suitable menu to you for written consent.

Free school meals

Who is entitled?

Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in state-funded schools are all eligible for free schools meals. However, if you meet the criteria for free school meals regardless of which year your child is in (see below), please apply to register your child, as the School will benefit from very significant additional funding - Free School Meal Funding and Pupil Premium. Don't let your child miss out!

Universal Infant Free School Meals

For all children, free school meals can be provided to parents or carers if they are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

Children will continue to receive free school meals if they meet the existing eligibility criteria and are in receipt of full-time education or education both before and after the lunch period.

The Electronic Checking Service might be able to confirm entitlement. If not, you’ll need to show recent proof that you qualify. Meals cannot be given until eligibility is verified.
