Uniform
Etchingham C of E School Uniform Policy
Principles
We believe that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos and environment.
We provide a complete list of the items needed for children’s school uniform in this policy and on request from the school office.
Aims
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:
- promotes a sense of pride in the school
- engenders a feeling of community and belonging
- is practical and smart
- identifies the children with the school
- is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
- makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
- is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
- has been designed with health and safety in mind.
Our colours are green, grey and white and the uniform is as follows:
Boys
- School green sweatshirt with school logo
- White polo shirt
- School green book bag with school logo
- Mid-grey trousers or grey shorts - please note that very dark grey or black is not acceptable
- Black shoes (not trainers) with grey socks - trainer socks are not permitted
Girls
- School green sweatshirt with school logo
- White polo shirt
- School green book bag with school logo
- Mid-grey skirt or pinafore dress (Optional mid-grey trousers) – please note that very dark grey or black is not acceptable

- A pair of trainers (Optional navy blue joggers/leggings & sweatshirt for outdoor PE)
Hair
Long hair must be tied back. Hair bands or slides may be worn but these should be school colours and simple in style. Fashion accessories/elaborate bands etc are not permitted. Extreme hairstyles are not permitted nor the use of hair gels and colours.
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. Pupils may wear stud earrings only.
Make up, Cosmetics, Sunglasses, Hats and Sunscreen
The school does not permit make up/cosmetic products to be worn by any children. Hair accessories eg hair band/alice band or simple toggles may be worn. Elaborate hair accessories are not permitted.
Sunglasses are not to be worn, unless prescription sunglasses are confirmed to be needed by a doctor (letter required), since they are a potential hazard on the playground.
During sunny weather please ensure that your child has sunscreen applied before he/she comes to school. A single application sunscreen is the preferred option. Please also ensure that your child brings a sunhat into school each day during sunny weather.
All clothing and footwear should be clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid loss of property.
